Long Island's rich history is on display in its charming towns and villages, offering a delightful blend of quaint shops, cozy cafes, and cultural experiences. Take a scenic drive along the North Fork's wine country, and you'll discover charming wineries where you can sample local wines with other parents while the kids enjoy freshly picked apples.

#1 Jack O’Lantern Blaze

Visit Jack O’Lantern Blaze in Old Bethpage where over 7,000 of carved pumpkins come to life. Your family can stroll through a mesmerizing wonderland filled with hand carved pumpkins, each one uniquely designed and magically illuminated. It's like stepping into a fairy tale brought to life.
#2 Family Farms

Embrace the fall experience by visiting local pumpkin patches like Harbes Family Farm in Riverhead, F&W Schmitt Family Farm, and Lewin Farm. These farms offer not only the chance to pick your own pumpkins but also corn mazes, hayrides, and delectable seasonal treats. I love bonding with my family over farm-fresh treats, savoring apple cider donuts and sweet corn. Additionally, kids can pet goats and chickens. At Lewin Farm kids can go apple-picking, where they can pluck their favorite apples straight from the trees!

 #3   Oyster Festival

On October 14 and 15th, visit the annual Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay. It's a perfect destination for seafood lovers, offering fresh oysters, live music, arts and crafts, and a fantastic atmosphere by the waterfront. It's an event you won't want to miss. 

#4 Trails and Parks

Long Island in autumn is a true escape from the bustling pace of everyday life, and one of my favorite locations is Cold Spring Harbor. As the leaves begin to paint the landscape with vibrant hues of red and gold, this serene spot becomes a haven of tranquility. The changing colors of the leaves create a peaceful ambiance, allowing me to unwind and connect with nature, making it the perfect antidote to the daily grind. Long Island is a home to many parks and trails, your family can enjoy the beautiful Cold Spring Harbor, Caleb Smith State Park, Connetquot State Park, Massapequa Preserve, and Sunken Meadow. Hike, bike, or simply take in the vibrant fall foliage. Cold Spring Harbor is a hidden gem on Long Island that offers a perfect blend of education and outdoor exploration for families with kids. My kids find this trail exciting, because of its challenging inclines making it an incredibly enjoyable adventure They love running up and down those steps, exploring the autumn foliage and finding cool mushrooms. While you’re in the area, don't forget to visit the Whaling Museum, where kids can learn about the maritime history of the region.   For those seeking a bit of adventure, explore the island's nature trails and parks, where the fall foliage paints a breathtaking backdrop for family hikes and picnics. Long Island's stunning beaches take on a new, serene beauty in the crisp autumn air, inviting you to collect seashells, build sandcastles, or simply enjoy a leisurely beachcombing stroll.

Cold Spring Harbor #5 Long Island Restaurant Week

From November 6th to 13th, Long Island Restaurant Week offers foodies with special prix-fixe menus at some of the island's finest restaurants. Many restaurants also offer kid-friendly options, ensuring that even the pickiest eaters will find something to enjoy. Beyond the food, Long Island Restaurant Week provides families with a chance to come together, share conversations, and savor quality time while trying out some amazing culinary delights the island has to offer.  

#6 Planting Fields Arboretum

For a tranquil escape, head to Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. Families can participate in Tai Chi in the Garden, unwind with yoga sessions, or join a scenic fall 5k run while surrounded by vibrant foliage.
